Otters in New Mexico?
Although their numbers vary greatly across the nation, river otters can be found in every continental state in the US!
River otters once frolicked our local network of rivers in the GIla Wilderness. They were hunted out completely in the 50's, but recent conservation efforts have reintroduced wild otters to the Taos and Gila Wilderness areas. Sightings have been reported in the Mimbres River.
Why Otters?
Why NOT? Otters are playful, joyful, absolutely adorable, resourceful, and they know that they are stronger together!
